Meet Ashley & Lexie.
Hi! We're the co-founders of MOVE. 7 years ago, we both felt like there were issues that weren't being discussed. More specifically, we felt that many girls, including ourselves, were overwhelmed by the pressure to be a "perfect girl". That typically meant, to look and act a certain way. We didn't feel that we were being empowered to be our best selves, but rather to fit inside of a box that society had created for us. We saw eating disorders and mental illnesses like anxiety taking over the lives of many we knew, and the self confidence of so many young women including ours deteriorating. With a lack of open conversation and education on these topics being provided to us, we decided to do something about it.
We decided to hold our first ever "workshop" with a small group of girls from our high school and middle school. We both spoke candidly about how we were feeling, and without knowing, we had started something. The small group of girls who attended connected so deeply with our message, we were urged to continue. After that, we began receiving invites from schools across Massachusetts to come and speak to their female students. We realized truly how important our message was, and the impact our program could have on so many. We had started a movement.
We developed our workshop into a five day long summer program, and have since hosted 6 summer programs, and over 50 workshops to girls of all ages. MOVE has became such a wonderful community and has changed our lives! We believe our message and mission to empower women to not only be the best they can be, but to support each other as well, is so important.
